The water ski competition at the 8th World Games continued on Thursday in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Ten U.S. athletes are representing USA Water Ski at the event. First held in 1981, the World Games is an international multi-sport event meant for sports that are not contested in the Olympics. The water ski program consists of three-event water skiing, barefoot water skiing and wakeboarding. For results, click here.

Caroline Hensley of Hixson, Tenn., Olivia McDonald of Fayetteville, N.C., and Storm Selsor of Fremont, Calif., are competing in the three-event water skiing competition. Keith St. Onge of Winter Haven, Fla., Adin Daneker of Olympia, Wash., Elaine Heller of Alma Center, Wis., and Shannon Heller of Alma Center, Wis., are competing in the barefoot water skiing competition. Andrew Adkison of Windermere, Fla., Dallas Friday of Orlando, Fla., and Raimi Merritt of Lantana, Fla., are competing in the wakeboarding competition.

The participating athletes – who compete solely for individual medals – were selected based on world overall rankings and availability.

Held every four years, the World Games is organized and governed by the International World Games Association, under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee. More than 3,000 athletes from 103 nations and 40 sports competed in the 2005 World Games in Duisburg, Germany.
