Wakeboard Team Earns Silver Medal

Adam Fields won the gold medal in Open Men.

The U.S. Wakeboard Team earned the silver medal and four U.S. team members earned individual medals at the 8th IWWF Wakeboard World Championships, Aug. 26-29, in Chuncheon, Korea. The event included athletes and teams from 25 countries. Australia won the gold medal for the second consecutive time. Italy earned the bronze medal.

Members of the 2009 U.S. Wakeboard Team were: Adam Fields (Longwood, Fla.), Open Men; Austin Hair (Tega Cay, S.C.), Open Men; Raequel Hoffman (Chico, Calif.), Open Women; Shawna Hoffman (Chico, Calif.), Open Women; Corrie Dyer (Crossville, Tenn.), Junior Women; and Holland Finley (Austin, Texas), Junior Women.

Fields scored 70.00 points to win the gold medal in Open Men; Hoffmann tallied 51.67 points to win the gold medal in Open Women; and Finley scored 36.13 points to win the gold medal in Junior Women. Hair scored 53.11 points to earn the bronze medal in Open Men. Dyer (22.79 points) and Shawna Hoffmann (21.67 points) placed fifth in Junior Women and Open Women, respectively.

Janifer and Roger Ellis (Auburndale, Fla.) served as team leaders for the U.S. Wakeboard Team.? Loren Levine (Winter Park, Fla.) represented the United States and the Pan American region as a judge.

Australia has now won world team titles in 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007 and 2009. The United States won team titles in 2004 and 2005. South Africa won the team title in 2001.
